Dredging and Mining.
The Dredgemaster of the Rising Sun reports : Dredged 134 hours, crossed the paddock four times, and worked ahead 12 feet. The bottom is rising quickly in places. The average depth is now from 42 to 45 feet. Prospects continue about t\v :am<\ The bottom,is hard clay with a iu:', o'w stv.p of sandstone iu the river pOxton of tli" cut. Machinery runniug well.
The river is still falling steadily, and is now at a low level.
The Electrics are still doing very poorly, and the large number of shareholders here are wondering how long it will be before they get on the rich wash again.
Alpine Consols is on rich wash, getting prospects as high as 2dwts, but the ground is very hard to work on account of the hard formation over the wash.
Mr Rawlins, who is interested in the syndicate that now owns the Bendigo mine, paid a visit there on Tuesday last, and he informed our reporter they are now preparing to do something in the way of opening up the deep level tunnel, as they intend to sluice off a lot of top stuff, and will then probably start to put in a deep level tunnel. Mr Rawlins stated there was every prospect of the alluvial claim turning out a very good one.
The sinking of the No. 1 Junction necessitated the Dredgemaster (Mr J. Richmond) looking after another appointment. He has been appointed to the Teviot Dredge, near Roxburgh, and in Mr Richmond they have a first-class man, who thoroughly understands his work.
Shine 2 would have had a much better return had they not been compelled to shift over to the poor side, of the cut, through the river bringing a lot of tailings down en them, which necessitated them moving over.
