Cromwell Borough Council.
The adjourned meeting of the Cromwell Borough Council was held at the Council Chambers on Tuesday, Brd April, at 7.80 p.m. Present —His Worship the Mayor j (Mr J. Little), Crs. Bowie, Hotop, I Jolly, Percy and Donnelly. The minutes of last meeting were j read and confirmed. : The outward correspondence was read and approved. Inward corrp-T*"" 1 w ■ »•■ ad I ai. ; hj n with j i. \vs: — Memo, from Seei.tary Charitable Ain Board n reference to contributions due to the Board. The Clerk reported the matter had i been attended to, and the amount due forwarded. Memo, from Secretary Central Otago Hospital Board, re amount due j to them. The Clerk reported it had been attended to, and the amount forwarded. Letter from Mr C. Holden, stating he would be able to resume duties. The Mayor congratulated the Clerk on his speedy recovery, and trusted he would keep on improving, which was endorsed by the other Councillors. The Clerk briefly returned thanks for the good wishes and for the consideration shown to him. Letter from W. T. May and Co., asking leave to tap the main with half-inch pipe.—Granted. From Mrs J. Quon, asking for reduction of rates, and to transfer the property to her.—Received. The Town Clerk tabled the District Electors Roll for examination of the Council. The Mayor reported on the state of the reservoir and head race, and mentioned the heavy annual expense of keeping the race in repair, and he was of the opinion that it would be a , saving of expense, besides improving the water supply in every way, if it was piped to the reservoir. After considerable discussion the | matter was held over in the meantime. The Mayor reported that he and Or. Donnelly, as a deputation from the Borough Council, had waited on j the Vincent County Council to dis- ! cuss "with them the advisability of \ adopting the scheme of Mr Gillander's | re the water motor, with the view of co-operating with the County Council in getting a share of the grant from the Government of the vote for irrigation. After some discussion Cr. Hotop moved, and Cr. Bowie seconded—That this Council approve of the action of the Mayor re the above, and that this Council work conjointly with the Count? Council in any step 3 thatbody may take to further this desirable object. —Carried. The Acting Town Clerk reported that the rates collected during the month amounted to £B4O, and that great credit was due to Mr Marshall for the energy displayed in collecting fhe same. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to Cr. Hotop for the valuable assistance rendered by him during the Town x Clerk's absence.—Carried unanigoonily* /.
The Mayor reported that complaints were made about horses wandering on the streets, and also to the nuisance of cyclists riding on the footpaths. Eesolved that immediate action be taken to stop the above nuisances.
The usual vote of thanks to the chair was passed.
