KURIWAO.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A good deal of rain lias fallen during the past ten days, and it has hud a \ery beneficial effect on the crops and pastures, as they were much m need of some moisture, the high winds haying dried up everything. .Farmers are now busy getting the turnips iii, some having already finished sowing, and now are making preparations _ to shear. Mr Jnine's Begg is putting in machines in the Cairn shod, to bo driven by an oil engine. Air John Begg, Mokoreta, has, also put in machines this season, driving his with electric power, generating the electricity by means of u Pol ton wheel, J. understand. . _ The you nil- people entertained their friends at a social and dance in tin; school some Utile time since, and I am sure all enjoyed it very much. Mr Nicholson, the secretary, had everything in apple-pie order 'to make it a success.

Jhe school was examined recently, and all passed. Mr J as. Bcgg has sent a cheque for the purchase of prizes for the children on tho breaking up of the school. It was very good of Mr Begg, and his gift will be much appreciated by the children.
