.PBESENTATIOKS Nearly 30 railway employees mot at tho Balclutha station last Thursday evening to bid farewell to Mr Charles MePherson, guard, who is boing transferal to Oamaru on promotion. Inincluded in those present were a few from Stirling station, where Mr MePherson was stationed before. Mr IT. F. Moqney, stationmaster, occupied the chair. He said Mr MePherson had been at Balclutha for some time now, and on the eve of his departure his mates had thought it fit to present him with some little token. He himself, had not known their guest very long but what • he had seen of him showed Guard MePherson to be a capable official, and one easy, to get on with. (Applause). It was with pleasure that he w.ould ask Mr MePherson to accept a go'M-mounted watch guard, and he knew ' the recipient would look upon it in days to come with kindly feelings of his many friends in Balclutha. Then he would also hand to him a gold brooch for l little Miss MePherson.—(Loud Ap- | plause). Others to speak in hearty i strains of Mr McPheison's high capI abilities as a guard, and his never i failing courtesy were Messrs I). McOurdy, G. Dunham, J. O'Hara, A. j iJamb, and Jus. However they I wished him all success at Oamaru, | and hoped to see him back at Bal- ! clutha some day as coaching foreman. | In reply Mr MePherson suitably ack- [ 'nowlodgo'd the gifts for himself and I his daughter. He had been 18 months ! in Balclutha, and had' been treated ' kindly. He had been eleven years in j the service, and during that time had I had no less than nine shifts, audi there was no place lie would have j more kindred recollections of than j Balclutha. I
Those present then rose and joined in the singing of "For he's a jolly good fellow" and the gathering broke up with three, cheers. Presentations '■have also linen made to other members of the staff who have been transferred, as follows : Silver-mounted umbrellas to Messrs A. T. Pittaway (clerk), Sid Bramson. (shunter) and W.
