GREENFIELD FARMERS' UNION PICNIC.
The 4th annual picnic of the Greenfield Farmers' Union took place on Thursday, 14th inst., in a paddock kindly lent by Mr J as. Smith. It was an fcfeal spot* for a picnic., being snjuglv sheltered by a band of trees. Unfortunately the weather was 'far from go(J,d, the morning being very dull, and heavy ram. commenced to come down about lunch time, and continued throughout the afternoon. However this did not prevent the 200' picknickers from spending an enjoyable time. A splendid sports programme was gone through, great interest beingtaken in the horse races especially. Both ladies' men's committees worked hard to make the picnic a success. 100 Yards Kace (open).-Ist 5/, 2nd 3/, 3rd 2/ W. Stirling 1, J. Moore 2, F..' Smith 3. Seven entries. This was a great race, Mrs Henderson and Mrs Holmes breasting the tape together. In the run oil'. Mrs Henderson won by a ! "e w inches. High dump. Prizes-5/, 3/, and •2/ McDonald, MeGownn and J. In this event, the competitor had to light his pipe,_ put up the umbrella, then mount his horse and ride half a mile, So much interest was taken in the last race that another was run for a sweep-stake, in which H. King was first and J. Kardy second. Old Men's Race. Prizes-Walking-stick valued 10/0 and trophies 2/G and I/-S. Coates 1, Reel 2, Sharp 3. Six entries. Sack Race, for boys. Prizes 2/ and 1 /-Hvslop 1, Pitt 2. Sack Race, tor men. Prizes 3/ and l/G-Hyslop 1, McMillan 2. Eight entries. Hop, Step, and Jump. Prizes 3/, 2/, and I/-J. McDonald .1, T. Fahey 2. F. Jones 3.
