TAPANUI.

[From Our Own Correspondent.] The cricket season opened last Saturday, when a very pleasant game was played between sides picked by the president, Mr Hendrie, and the vice-president, Mr Menzies. The former side won easily. The ground is in good order, and the recent improvements were much admired. Afternoon tea, provided by some lady friends, was much enjoyed during an interval of the game. Mr John M'Coll was married to Miss Fischer in the Episcopalian Church on Tuesday morning when MrF.L. Stanley officiated, with Mr A. B. Bnrrell as choirmaster, who played the wedding march. In the evening a social was held at Mr Siminond's house where a large party parsed a pleasant evening. Everybody is wanting rain and the grass has not been so backward for a long time. Lambing has been very successful in this district and large returns are reported all around. ' Someone has been taking a rise out of a neighbouring paper by reporting a large incrpase in the amount of barley sown in Tapanui district, whereas the fact is that less than ever is Sown.
