I Great sympathy is felt for Mrs Harming and her family regarding the safety of her husband, Captain Manning of the ketch Catlin, which is about 15 days out on a trip from I/ytlleton to the 131uff, and which generally takes about four days. He is widely known in these parts and greatly respected. The general idea prevails here that he has boon blown out to sea, and will turn up safely. His son, who owns a small craft, is searching down the coast for any signs of the missing boat. The annual services in connection with the Presbyterian Church were held last Sunday, the licv. J, M. Allan, of Stirling, preaching to good attendances at both services. On Monday the annual soiree was held, and was a groat success, large crowds attending. The singing was very good, both Mr Jackman and Mrs M'Lean being in splendid voice, Mr Jackman was rapturously encored for both his solos, Home thinking they had ncvor heard him sing better. Hpeeches were made by the ltevs, J, M. Allan, Fairmald, M'Lareu, and Me;sfsr» f'inlay and lidie, Tho cakes and tea, which were supplied by the members of the congregat'ron, were evidently good judging from the way they disappeared from view. To shew the dangers of drinking dirty water it happened that a young married man, Mr John M'lntyre, who was working out at Taukupu, last week took bad after drinking some, the illness developing into typhoid fever. Dr_Smith was out last Saturday seeing him and found him dangerously ill ; so far there is little improvement to announce. Owaka, October 17.
