CLUTHA HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.
A meeting of those favorable to the establishment of a Horticultural Society m this district was held in the Clutha Lkai-bh Cilice, Balclutha, oh Saturday evening. , .
Amongst those present were Messrs Ralph Moir, J. F. M'Gregor, Wm. Tosh, Harry Clark, R. Cramond. Donald Sutherland, Wm. Hope, J. S. .Fleming, etc. Mr ' Donald Sutherland was called to the chair. A long conversation ensued as to the desirability dnd practicability of establishing such a Society, and the feeling of the meeting . was unanimous and hearty in favar of (ho object. Mr M'Gregor formally moved that the Society be established, to lie called the Clutha Horticultural Society. ..- Mr Clark seconded the motion, which was carried unanimously. Mr M'Gregor moved that the boundaries be those of tlie Clutha district, including Popotunoa.
Seconded by Mr Cramond, 'and carried. Mr Tosh proposed that an annual Show hi connection with the Society be held, and also that there ba three prizes awarded for the best kept gardens in "Balclutha. Seconded hy Mr Moir, and carried. . It was resolved that the animal subscription feo lie— for honorary members, 10s, {md for ordinary members, ss. The foil wing gentlei fieri were appointed Cilice-heaver:* and Committee :—President. Mr T. T. Ritchie ; Vice-President, Csipi-am Pillans ; Treasurer, Mr Joseph Robertson ; Secretary, Mr Harry Clark. Committee : Messrs M'Gregor,!). Sutherland, Tosh, Moir, Cramond, Mason, A. C rigor, W. Hope, Dr Smith, and J". S. Eloming. "... • The following were appointed Judges for the best kept gardens : Messra Sutherland, M'Gregor, and Clark. ,
The Secretary was instructed to get member's cards printed, for distribution amongst the members of Committee.
The meeting then adjourned,
