THE DEPUTATION TO DUNEDIN.

TO THB BDITOK. Sik,— l think the Town Council made a mistake on Monday evening in nominating Mr Dunne as a member of the deputation to wait upon the Government to try and get them to compensate Mr Cramond for the expense ho has gone to with the railway siding, and open it to tho public. Mr Dunno was iv tho Council last yoar, and was the ringleader in heaping insult upon the Government by threatening them with Uw proceedings to compel the removal of the courthouse, police camp, otc. Ho insulted them uutii they stopped all communication with the municipality, and, as Mr Dunne said, refused to answer the Council's letters. Tn consequence of Mr Dunne's conduct in this and other matters, the ratepayers turned him out of the Council, and it is a very hazardous stop for the Council to i send him as one of a deputation to get a favour. | I venture to say that unless this Jonah be thrown overboard, the deputation will meet with a dry reception, and that their request will be reftised. Then, I suppose, the Council will havo to do themselves what they now ask the Government to do, and I and tho other ratepayers will have to pay the compensation money. I trust Mr Dunne will himself sco the propriety of resinging from the deputation, and thus give the other gentlemen a chance of obtaining the object. — I am, &c. Katbpaybh. *
