OUR SABBATH BELLS.
TO THB EDITOR. Sir, — If the irregularity of the two bells in Balclutha on Sundays only created amusement, 1 should not trouble you on tho subject, but it ■ also occasions some inconvenience and much annoyance to a large number of peoplo just at the time they are preparing for public worship. I wish fco call attention to th© matter in the hope that a remedy may bo appliod. Tho services in both churches are supposed to commence at
I 11.30. The ono bell commences to ring abouv • 11.15, and the Presbyterian bell generally commences from fivo minutes to a quarter of an hour j after tlie other haa ceased. Many people mistake the one bell for the other, and thus are j much too late or too parly afc churoh, as the case j may be. Surely in such an important matter as ! Divine service, punctuality might be onforced by those who hava to attend to the secular affairs of the church. If time cannot bo kept, . then the bells should be kept silent. In the meantime the irregularity is very annoying, and causos people to enter the church in a state of vexation and irritation, instead of a proper frame of mind for the service in which they are to engage. — I am, &c, North. * .
