TRIATHLON

Steve Gurney was over-all winner of the 3ZB Kiwi Lager triathlon around the shores of Lyttelton harbour. Russell Prince was a close second and Wendy Adams was the first woman home.

The event, organised by the Governors Bay Community Association, attracted entries from 120 individual competitors and 15 teams. The contest consisted of an Bkm canoeing leg from Charteris Bay, a 25km cycling leg, taking competitors past Purau and then back to the Tedding-

ton straights, before the gruelling 9km run which took them down to the Governors Bay jetty and back to the finish in the Allendale domain. A fun triathlon, held in conjunction with the serious event, featured running and cycling, plus a hydro slide and a Ikm mud plug through bush.
