BOWLS

With the sorting out in the Canterbury Bowling Centre’s Robbie Burns four fours competition well and truly over, several teams are well placed to reach the final. None is in an unassailable position, but some should feel confident of advancing beyond section play. One of these is Papanui No. 1 in section one of division one. With 19 points to its credit, it is three clear of the field, with Sumner No. 1 on 16. In section four, Spreydon No. 1 also has a three-point lead. It has 21 points, while Canterbury No. 1 is closest on 18. In section three, two teams are level pegging. South Brighton No. 1 and Linwood No. 1 both have 17 points and they are closely followed by Beckenham No. 1, which has 16. In section two, the top teams are in Indian file, with Burnside No. 1 on 16, followed immediately by Woolston Working Men’s Club on 15.
