Hector’s dolphin

Sir,—Mr Woollaston stated in “The Press” (August 23) that the best available scientific evidence suggests that dolphins have great difficulty in detecting fine monofilament nylon. Well, my family have been fishing in Port Levy from the heads to the jetties for 20 years using these nets and have never caught a Hector or any other dolphin. Surely this practical experience says as much as a few months of survey?—Yours, etc.,

F. E. OSBORNE. August 23, 1989.
