1990 promotion
Sir,—l heartily support B. Watkins (August 28) in his contention of the current and massive sell-out to foreign interests. Of what use are frigates if the potential enemy enters by the back door, having bought out, and predominantly, our basic rural and urban assets? Political demands must follow economic ownership interests; hence, with the loss of ethnic sovereignty, our frigates and defence capacity will gradually pass into foreign hands. The great and cunning Machiavelli could not improve on this masterly technique of seeming kindly subversion and gradual ownership, of a nearbankrupt and loij£-coveted duo
of otherwise rich lands — New Zealand and Australia. In the above circumstances frigates, and all such, would be useless; gigantic white elephants. — Yours, etc.,
W. J. COLLINS. August 28, 1989.
