Moa bones displayed
Moa bones excavated from Mr Ira McNabb’s Cheviot property about 18 months ago are now part of a moa display at the Cheviot Museum. The small museum was crowded at the recent opening of the display. The bones were excavated by a team headed by the Canterbury Museum’s liaison officer and sub-fossil birds officer, Ms Beverley McCulloch. The bones were cleaned, researched and mounted for display at the Canterbury Museum before being transported to Cheviot. The director of the Canterbury Museum, Mr Michael Trotter, said the collection rivalled that of Pyramid Valley, near Waikari.
