Kiwi cricketers win

PA London The New Zealand youth team had a winning start to its England tour against a Sussex youth side at Arundel yesterday — thanks to a brilliant fourth-wicket partnership between Lome Howell and Chris Harris. The Canterbury pair put on 157 after the Kiwis had lost their first three wickets for a miserly 18 runs in the 55over match. Harris scored an undefeated 106 and Howell gave him good support with a fine 64. Nottinghamshire’s Chris Cairns weighed in with a useful 33 enabling New Zealand to reach 243 for five. Sussex made a brave attempt to knock off the runs but was still eight short at 235 for four when it ran out of overs. Cairns finished with one for 37 off his 11 overs.
