Pupils’ road-safety efforts win praise

By

TOM METCALFE

Christchurch high school pupils involved in Road Safety Week have been praised by the Minister of Transport, Mr Jeffries. , He said yesterday that three Hornby High School pupils who had started a Students Against Drunk Driving (S.A.D.D.) group at their school were "an example to all drivers.” The three pupils — Shelly Kimer, Sharon Dickie and Ana Olykan — had signed up more than

170 of their fellow students for the S.A.D.D. campaign, which involves an agreement between teenagers and parents not to drink and drive. A group of Rang! Ruru Girls’ High School students will receive an award today for a display in the school hall’s foyer of a wrecked car. The display, promoting the S.A.D.D. campaign, has won first prize in a competition organised by the Christchurch City Council’s traffic safety committee.
