Sport Canty B wins hockey

Five first-half goals paved the way for a 5-1 win for Canterbury B against New Zealand Combined Services in a representative hockey match at Porritt Park last night. Canterbury capitalised on some loose defence by Services in the first half, and with slick passing split the defence time and again. Chris Dockerill scored three of the goals, and Mark Lane and Phil Teague one each.

After the interval the Services side tightened its defence. It marked the Canterbury forwards closely and the precision passing that was evident in the first half failed Canterbury.

Services gained a greater amount of possession as the half wore on and it was rewarded for some well coordinated attacks with a goal by Alan Register in the final minutes.
