Dole delay for young

By SUZANNE KEEN Young people who leave school and are unable to find a job will have to wait longer before receiving unemployment benefit, after an announcement in the Budget. The Minister of Social Welfare, Dr Cullen, said school-leavers who were aged under 18 'would face a stand-down period for the unemployment benefit of

six months. This continued the reforms the Government had made to youth income support. Dr Cullen said it would strengthen the incentives for young people to continue in education or training rather than leaving school. An implementation date for the standdown period will be announced later this year. ■
