Family support ‘eroded’
PA Wellington A social policy consultant, the Rev. Charles Waldegrave, said last evening the Budget was largely a streamlining of administration and did not address the poverty levels of low-income families. Family Support and guaranteed family minimum income had been eroded because it had not increased, even at the level of inflation, Mr Waldegrave said in a statement. “The new universal benefit does not increase the income of beneficiaries apart from the lifting of the unemployed benefit to the level of the sickness benefit.” Superannuation payments were being eroded to the level of a sickness beneficiary, Mr Waldegrave said.
