C.S.I.M. demonstration

The annual Demonstration Concert of the Christchurch School of Instrumental Music will take place in the Town Hall on July 29 at 6 p.m. The concert will include short items played by the school’s seven orchestras, two symphonic bands, flute, recorder, and percussion ensembles, combined classes of the recorder school and the school’s junior choir and Christchurch Youth Choir. The massed items, which involve more than 1000 young musicians playing almost every conceivable instrument, are “Hymn of Joy” by Beethoven and the cancan from “Orpheus and the Underworld” by Offenbach, arranged by the founder of C.5.1.M., Robert Perks. Before the concert begins and during interval in the foyer the Jazz Band and the C.S.I.M. pre-school classes will demonstrate how they learn music and movement. The concert will close with the Christchurch Youth Orchestra playing “Pomp and Circumstance” by Elgar.
