Snooker field strong

The inaugural Woolston Working Men’s Club 3000 snooker tournament begins this week-end, and with a $lOOO winner’s purse there is one of the strongest fields from throughout the South Island seen for many years. Several former national champions in Dave Meredith, Dale Kwok, and Peter DeGroot head the field. Other consistent performers are Brian Kirkness, Roy Young and Stan Maffey. Section play began yesterday, and continues today with the eighth finals at 6.30 p.m. this evening. Play begins at 10 a.m. tomorrow and the final begins at 4 p.m.
