Cycle helmets
Sir, —I strongly feel that all schools should consider making the wearing qf. cycle helmets compulsory. I am a pupil at a
high schol in the southern part of Christchurch where few cycle helmets are worn in the junior school and hardly any at all in the senior school. Two weeks ago the “helmet lady,” Mrs Rebecca Oates, visited our school and, although her story was well received, few students took her advice because they fear they may be abused. Compulsory use would remove this problem. I realise one problem of compulsory use is cost. Surely a way could be found to assist people who find the cost prohibitive to purchase helmets for their children? A life is worth more than $44. —Yours, etc., J. HOLMES. July 18, 1989.
