Thar
Sir, —The Environment and Conservation Organisation (E.C.0.) must be very naive, if it thinks Himalayan thar can be eradicated, just because rats, etc, were removed from a few small off-shore islands. The main breeding range of thar is about 22505 q km of the Southern Alps. Total eradication over such a huge area would not only be very costly (in the millions of dollars), but very unlikely as welt It would be far better to manage thar — as they are a big game hunting resource of international quality, and should be treated as such. — Yours, etc, JEFF HODGSON.
