Two men hold up hotel
PA Hamilton Two men held up the Waihi Beach Hotel on Saturday and made off with about $3OOO.
The men, wearing balaclavas and armed with a sawn-off shotgun and a rifle, demanded money from a security van driver outside the hotel at 9.40 p.m. Senior-Sergeant Carl Fischer of the Hamilton police said the men escaped in a white Toyota Corolla stationwaggon. The car was found abandoned soon after the incident a few kilometres from the hotel. A Waihi police spokesman said the town’s six police officers had been so busy over the week-end that investigations into several burglaries had been put on hold.
