Labour policies

Sir, —We hear so much about the first, great Labour Government and how it managed to get New Zealand back on its feet after a severe depression and remain in a debt-free position after the war. How did it finance all the things it introduced — the State housing scheme, the Christmas bonus, the free health scheme and many major public works (to name but a few)? Why did it move away from those policies and why does' this Government not return to them? Perhaps someone should enlighten Messrs Lange and Caygill on the methods that were used. — Yours, etc., HEATHER MALONEY. May 14, 1989.
