Confusing
Sir,—Some folk could easily become confused by comments of some Government members of Parliament etc. "The Press” (March —23) reports: “Bassett warns councils off legal action” (with a threat to rectify any loopholes in the reform process), and this in a so-called democratic State where people believe that courts are the places to settle disputes. “The Press” (March 18): “Caygill offers tax advice,” with comments in contrast to the former Minister of
Finance (Mr Douglas); whilst, on the next page, “Tax aids Cerebos” reminds me of the boast of capitalists that they pull themselves up by their own bootlaces. Tell it to somebody on a benefit who is getting clobbered. “The Press” (March 20): “Wall St tumbles on inflation news," "Shocks felt in London.” “The Press” (March 21): “Eight times more falls than rises.” All this and more (e.g., “1990 will be ‘positive’ for N.Z.” (March 16) and “Jobless ‘could reach 265,000’” (March 23)).—Yours, etc.,
KENNETH EBER MARTIN. March 23, 1989.
