Teachers’ strike
Sir,—Thank goodness there is still a body of concerned people not prepared to let trained professionals be replaced by transient amateurs in the vital field of education. — Yours, etc.,
P. L. SQUIRES. March 22, 1989.
Sir,—l have read and listened to the message of secondary schoolteachers trying to justify their industrial action. I am not at all convinced by their story that their motivations are any different from those of the arrogant seamen who preceded them on the supplicatory stage. They very obviously want to prevent the cold winds of reality to which the rest of us have been exposed from affecting their cosy little sinecure. — Yours, etc.,
TERRY DOLBY. March 25,. 1989.
