Printers to get payment
PA Wellington Government Printing Office workers are to get a $2OOO stress payment.
The State Services Commission has agreed to the payment because of the pressure put on workers during the drawn-out sale of the G.P.O. The workers will also receive a further $2OOO in recognition of the loss of public service rights and privileges after the eventual sale. The first payment will be made soon, and the second when the business .is sold. The payments, were negotiated by the Public Service Association and agreed to by the G.P.O.’s 850 workers at three meetings on Friday. The money will come from the G.P.O.’s own resources. In return for the payments, workers have agreed th stop industrial action over the sale, although that is not ruled out during talks to be held soon for an industrial agreement. They have also pledged to lift productivity. The P.S.A.’s general secretary, Mr Colin Clark, said yesterday the agreement also meant workers transferring to the private sector employer would be taken on with at least the present terms and conditions.
