Separate murder trials

PA Hamilton A High Court murder trial in Hamilton has started a third week with the four accused being granted the right of separate trials. Mr Justice Gallen dismissed three of the accused, David Waretini Karena, aged 19, a distributor, Gwenda Aneta

Rowe, aged 19, unemployed, and Michael Ronald Shane Ross, aged 19, unemployed, all of Hamilton, until August 1, when a new date will be set for their trials. The trial of Lee Anne Waho, aged 26, an assistant matron, of Hamilton, proceeds before the jury that was empanelled two weeks ago.

The four are accused of murdering Kevin Paul Witehira at Hamilton on May 19 last year.

Justice Gallen said a number of complications had arisen from the trial because there had been four trials in one, so he directed that each of the accused would be tried separately.
