Sir Robert
Sir,—The embarrassment of Sir Robert Muldoon’s predictions is that he is always right. Who warned about the sharemarket crash and the folly of letting the exchange rate run free? Who predicted Labour’s policies would result in massive unemployment, unacceptably high interest rates, galloping inflation? Yes, it was Sir Robert. Clearly he is the only member of Parliament capable of leading New Zealand out of the wilderness and restoring some sense of sanity. Labour is excited about single-digit inflation, but inflation is still twice as high as it was under Sir Robert’s leadership, and we still have double the number of unemployed. Until National recognises the country’s need of Sir Robert and again makes him spokesman on financial affairs, National will remain in Opposition. The electorate does not appreciate sick jokes or funny phrases being used to
cover up what the present incumbent of the position does not know or understand.—Yours, etc.,
I. J. CUNNINGHAM. January 20, 1988.
