National funboard competition abandoned

The New Zealand funboard championships being held in conjunction with the Rheineck boardsailing series, at Lake Ellesmere, has been abandoned because the minimum number of races could not be held in the given time because of lack of wind.

The championships began last Thursday and competitors had to race at least four rounds in each grade for an official result. A minimum wind speed of 13 knots had to be recorded before a race could start and with the wind blowing steadily just below that speed for the entire four days set aside for the event, only two races were run.

These were held late on the first day and since then several attempts were abandoned. With no result from the championships, Kevin Trotter of Auckland, last year’s winner, keeps his title until next year.
