History of deer
Sir,—l am researching the history of red deer in New Zealand. I need information about sets of stag antlers which I cannot, or may not be able to, locate because of a fire in the Bealey Hotel some years ago. (1) A head (21 points) shot by Albert Cochran in the Bealey River. (2) A head (16 points) shot by Frank Wall near Carrington Hut about 1928. (3) A head which hung in the old Bealey Hotel; very palmated and possibly destroyed in the fire of 1953. (4) An 18pointer evidently shot by Leonard Williams and hanging in the Oxford Workingmen’s Club. (5) A 14-pointer shot by a man named Williams about 1937 in the Lees Valley area and now somewhere around Okains Bay. — Yours, etc.,
