Mary Mountier, who laboured long and ably to come up with the “Notable Thoroughbred” series, has followed up with an appealing, if less demanding successor.
She is editor of “The Racing Scene in New Zealand” which accurately captures the colour and atmosphere of racing in this country. The book has three editorial contributions, but its appeal for. many; will.be its illustrations — 145 full colour photographs. <, . The photographers*.

Places have been found for Tapanui and Riverton as well as beach racing on the Kapiti Coast along with shots taken at plush Ellerslie. “The Racing Scene in New Zealand” makes a timely appearance. For many, it should appeal as a Christmas present at a time when New Zealand racing starts on one of the more colourful and ’rewarding segments- of the season.
