Second winner for stables

Simon Katz is the second individual Dominion Handicap winner prepared from the Landon Lodge stables at

Chertsey In the last 10 years.

Scotch Tar, which won the race In 1978 in a national record time of 4:11.6, was prepared to win the race when Slim Dykman ’formerly owned the property, purchased by Simon Katz’s trainer, Dick Prendergast, in 1980. Scotch Tar returned to win the race again that year when Dykman was training at Ladbrooks.

In fact, a Dominion Handicap starter has been prepared at Landon Lodge in eight of the last ten years. The success rate reads: 1978 Scotch Tar (won), 1979 Scotch Tar (fourth), 1980 (no runner), 1981 (no runner, but Prendergast won the intermediate trot on Dominion Handicap night with Israel), 1982 Hannibal Best (12th), 1983 Worthy Adlos (eighth), 1984 Worthy Adios (11th), 1985 Simon Katz (fourth), 1986 Simon Katz (fifth), and 1987 Simon Katz (first).
