L.P.G. tank for new hotel
An eight-tonne liquefied petroleum gas tank will be sunk next to the wall of the Town Hall to service the Parkroyal Hotel. The Christchurch City Council last evening approved the installation of the tank in a concrete chamber on council land at the south-west corner of the Town Hall. The hotel’s owner will be given an easement over the land which it will lease from the council. The initial term of the lease will be 10 years. The tank, believed to be the first underground L.P.G. tank approved in Christchurch, will be
landscaped to disguise it in the high pedestrian traffic area. Council officers said that a tank was not included in the hotel build--ing because L.P.G. was not available in Christchurch at the time the hotel was designed. Safety and delivery conditions will be imposed for the tank, which has the approval of the Chief Inspector of Dangerous Goods in Wellington; The tank is the maximum allowable size as of right under the District Scheme and is more than twice the size of the average L.P.G. tank at a service station.
