Contribute fastest pacer

ALEX McMILLAN

The Impeccably bred four-year-old, Contribute, was the fastest pacer to qualify in near perfect conditions at Addington Raceway yesterday morning.

After receiving a good run in third position for a greater part of his 2400 m qualifying heat, Contribute was sent to the lead 500 m from home by his trainer, Greg Payne, and comfortably held out Rusaley Du Jour (handy throughout), by two lengths. There was a gap of 14 lengths to Grand Boy and the pacemaker, Henry Tee King.

Contribute, a four-year-old son of Plat Du Jour and Kim (Out To WinDeft), recorded a smart 3min 11.75, the halfbrother to the useful filly, Petite, being timed over his last 800 m in 59.1 s and 400 m in 29.35.

Russley Du Jour (3 f, Plat Du Jour-Goimak) also gained her ticket, recording 3min 12.15. The John Shaw-trained Cruising Sharvid (3 g, Mldshipman-Lopez Lady) ran a respectable 3min 15.7 s to win his heat by three lengths, leading throughout for Peter Jones and running his last 800 m in 59.9 s and 400 m in 29.95.

Other qualifiers over 2400 m were Lady Carbinei (3 f, Surmo Hanover-Re-gal Patron; 3min 17.35); El Capella (3 f. El PatronClassic Padero; 3min 17.75) and Our Transport (3 g, Transport Chip-Our Anne; 3min 18.65).
