Rolls Hanover wins

ALEX McMILLAN

The open class pacer, Rolls Hanover, furthered his preparation for next month's 1300,000 Toyota New Zealand Cup with a decisive win at the Addington trials yesterday.

The son of Vance Hanover began well from the 40m mark in the C 5 and faster pacers* heat over 2600 m and improved from the rear of the fourhorse field a round from home to sit outside Free’s Best (20m), which had reached the lead at the 1300 m.

Rolls Hanover applied the pressure to Free’s

Best from the 800 m and clearly had the measure of that runner with 200 m to run. He was credited with a time of 3min 28.35, sprinting strongly over his last 800 m in 58.3 s and the 400 m in 29.85. Robin Butt had a tight hold on the six-year-old, which races next at Forbury Park on Saturday week, at the finish. The early leader, World of Fame, battled on gamely to run second, one and a half lengths behind the winner, with Free’s Best third ahead of Imperial Time, which broke for a few strides at the 500 m.

Meadow King and. Balonne indicated that they were near peak condition for this month’s Lion Brown Rising Stars series when they finished second and third respectively behind Flashdance in the Cl and faster mobile pace over 2600 m. Flashdance, after having a perfect run on the outer, finished determinedly to Just beat Meadow King (parked throughout) by a head, recording 3min 26.85, her last 800 m in 58s and 400 m in 28.45. Balonne, which raced three back on the rails, finished brilliantly wide out when clear in the run home, Just shading the pacemaker, Hit the Rum (now with Cecil Devine), for third. Meadow King, the winner of a Sires’ Stakes heat at Addington last week, and Balonne, the winner of his only start to date at Oamaru in August, will contest heats of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club’s Rising Stars series for three-year-olds at Addington next Wednesday. The $50,000 final will be decided on Friday, October 23.

Karina Lee, a candidate for the Dave Peters Handicap Trot at Motukarara on Saturday, ran out an easy winner of the Cl and faster trotters’ heat over 2600 m, recording 3mln 29.35.

In the hands of her race driver, Ivan Schwamm, the daughter of Some Evander produced a solid burst in the run home to beat Kylie’s Pride (30m) by one and a quarter lengths, with Linda Ellen (40m) four lengths back third. The talented trotter, Highwood, which is likely to resume racing at Addington next Wednesday, trotted away safely from the 40m mark in the hands of his trainer, War-

ren Stapleton, but had his chance extinguished when severely checked with 400 m to run. He looks very well. Results:
