Star gallopers parade
Special correspondent Hastings
The star gallopers, Jennifer Rush, Reception and Guess paraded in peak condition at the Hastings track session yesterday morning and they are ready for big efforts in the three feature races at the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s meeting at Hastings today. Jennifer Rush contests the Anthony G. Cavanagh Stakes and from barrier number four, must be hard to beat Her ownertrainer, Jim Campin, is pleased with the filly’s progress and is confident
of a winning run. Jennifer Rush had her final gallop on Monday and yesterday morning she was confined to two rounds of pacework on the plough. Reception did slightly more serious work when he rounded off his preparation for the Okawa Paramount Guineas. The big colt was ridden by his trainer, Trevor Whittington, and ended a couple of rounds of pacework with 600 m in 40s. Brian Hibberd rides him today. Guess had his raceday rider, Shane Treweek, aboard when he worked keenly over two rounds of
strong pacework on the sand. The Takanini visitor ran a good third in the open handicap at Hastings on Saturday and could give some cheek in the Ormond Stakes. “I don’t think he’s a real weight-for-age horse, but it’s not really a great field of true weight-for-age horses and he could get some of the money,” said his trainer, Baggy Hillis.
Time honours for the session went to the good sprinter-miler Noggin (Jones). which. sped over 800 m in 50s, the last 600 m in 36.75. He has come to hand nicely.
