Music hall season
The Halswell Drama Group’s main production for 1987, “Music Hall Melodies,” is a “real mash” of old music hall numbers, according to group member, Mr Peter Harris.
The show will run at Halswell Hall for 12 nights, opening on September 19 and closing on October 31.
Mr Harris said that each year the group produces some kind of musical show as its major production, and it had lots of requests for a music hall-style show. It last produced a similar show in 1984.
The show, which will be compered, has a cast of about 30. Scenes will include a picnic, a pub, and one will resemble a flickering silent movie.
Mr Harris said the group hopes audiences will participate in the production by wearing turn-of-the-century costume to the show, and by “bringing along their best singing voices.”
