A.N.Z.U.S.
Sir,—My argument is not with the common soldier, but with power politicians. Certainly, the United Nations invited New Zealand to participate in the Korean War. This august body was virtually controlled by the United States in those days, but it is a different story today. The Korean War was really an American war, as was the Vietnam War. In both cases, America
would not agree to the elections taking place as promised. There is no doubt that since the end of the Korean War the South Korean Government, supported by the United States, has been extremely oppressive, culminating in the large-scale opposition to it over the years. Today, South Korea is loaded with American bases, thousands of American troops and nuclear warheads. Whether the climb-down by the present Government will lead to democracy remains to be seen. — Yours, etc., B. R. HANSEN. July 11, 1987.
