Death sentence
Sir,—After reading the letter of Jocelyn Hay (July 10), the death penalty may not bring back the little Napier girl, but we need something a lot sterner than community facilities for these people who commit murders. I agree with the death penalty; murders are not always committed by people who are on drugs and alcohol. We cannot keep finding an excuse for these people who brutalise and murder so coldly. Murder is more frequent now than ever before in New Zealand. We have to protect our children, and they look to us for that protection. Jocelyn Hay also talks, about drunken drivers. The two issues are totally separate as drunken drivers get into their cars totally devoid of any common sense. Murder is often premeditated. We have tried all other methods of reform and help for these poor misunderstood murderers. What about the victims?—Yours, etc., (Mrs) YVONNE MARSHALLSAY. July 13, 1987.
