Extra parking spaces

A third staff car-park will be built at Christchurch Airport to provide 100 extra spaces and more revenue for the Christchurch Airport Authority. The car-park will be west of the recreation centre near the roundabout, and will cost $115,000 for sealing, kerbing, lighting, fencing, landscaping and barrier arms. An increase from $65 a year to $lOO for parking will pay for the construction. At present, 1340 staff use 435 spaces on various shifts. The new car-park will make 50 extra parks available for public use. The Christchurch City Council’s airport committee yesterday increased the charge for public spaces to 60c an hour or part-hour with a maximum of $8 for 24 hours. Costs for reserved and prepaid parking rose 75 per cent in line with charges at other airports.
