Connor threatened
MZPA-Reuter Fremantle Security was tightened at the Fremantle headquarters of the America’s Cup challenger, Stars and Stripes, yesterday after a threat to kill the yacht’s all-conquering skipper, Dennis Conner. A caller to a television station in Melbourne, 3800 km away in eastern Australia, said he intended travelling to
Fremantle to shoot Conner, aged 44. . A Stars and Stripes spokesman said security had been tightened at the syndicate headquarters as a precaution but the threat was not being taken seriously in view of the distance between Fremantle and Melbourne. Yesterday was a rest day from racing.
