Role changes for Mr Bill Andersen
PA Auckland Mr Bill Andersen will not now be appointed secretary of the Socialist Unity Party, the “New Zealand Herald” has reported. The party’s central committee has decided on the change as part of a move, it said, to implement a policy of “strengthening the working class.”
Mr Andersen will remain a member of the party executive but the position of secretary will become vacant.
Earlier this year Mr Andersen (at the time party president) and Mr George Jackson (party secretary) were to have swapped jobs. The party intended that Mr Andersen, a leading trade unionist, cut some of his union activities so he could spend more time working for the party. Mr Jackson has since taken up the presidency. Mr Andersen said many circumstances had brought about the change, including the union campaign to retain the national award system.
