Fire-fighters to stop work

PA Wellington Wellington Airport crash fire-fighters will stop work for an hour on Friday to discuss possible industrial action over the Ministry of Transport’s restructuring of airport crash fire services. Hundreds of other workers in the Wellington region affected by the Government’s State sector restructuring will also meet on Friday to discuss the proposals. They will include Lands and Survey,

Forest Service, Energy and, possibly, Ministry of Works staff. The fire-fighters recently gave 14 days notice of industrial action, which will expire on August 1. That, however, is a separate issue, and this week the fire-fighters will be concentrating on Civil Aviation commercialisation proposals in particular. The meeting is expected to last from 12.30 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. and to inhibit aircraft movement.
