Glass award

PA Wellington A Ponsonby artist has won the third Phillips Studio Glass Award for the second time. Miss Ann Robinson, daughter of former Auckland mayor, Sir Dove Myer Robinson won the award of $2OOO for her entry of a pate de verre bowl from a total of 90 entries. She also won the award in 1984 for another bowl but of a different style. The award was judged by American glass artist, Mr Billy Morris, who described the form and surface of the winning piece as “sensitive and true to the material.” A stained glass piece called “Three Panel Screen” by Holly Sanford from Aucklnd received an “honourable mention” from Mr Morris. The award was established to provide a forum in which the glass art medium could be viewed and discussed, to bring an international judge to New Zealand to evaluate finished work, and to teach students glass techniques through workshops held in conjunction with the award exhibition.
