Junior golfer wins a senior title

The talented Canterbury junior golfer, Mark Tamuta, is believed to be the youngest player to win the Templeton club’s senior championship. Tamuta, the provincial under-21 champion and semi-finalist in the Canterbury match-play event this year, beat the very experienced John Prebble, 5 and 4, in the 36-hole final. Tamuta is aged 17. In the semi-finals, Tamuta beat last year’s runner-up, at

the seventeenth, and Prebble downed the Canterbury squad member, Joe Gantley, at the twentieth. The intermediate championship was won by Grant Peattie, who beat Simon Topping, 3 aqd 2, and the junior A title went to Gary Cooper, who stopped Chas Thatcher by the same margin. Scott Godyre was an easy winner of the junior B championship, accounting for Michael Flynn, 9 and 8.
