Waitaki odour monitors?
Paparua petitioners objecting to the smell of the Waitaki freezing works at Islington will be asked to monitor the odours,' the Paparua County Council’s finance committee heard last evening. The committee received a report on a meeting held for councillors, council staff, and representatives of the company.
.The meeting was held in response to a petition in May signed by 124 residents, who objected to smells from the freezing works.*.’ It was suggested that the council should ask the petition organisers to set up "stations” at strategic points to monitor smells, wind direction ’ and weather. The report said the
company had not received any complaint about the smell. The company- could not explain the problem, especially, since there had been a very low “kill” in the past season. The freezing works’ superintendant engineer, Mr P. Woodfield, said there was no new solution to eliminate the smell. The company was doing its best '
