Fishermen’s catch rights tenders
PA Tauranga Commercial fishermen should receive tender documents this week inviting them to surrender catch rights for some species of fish, said the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries. The tender-round forms part of a big restructuring of the national inshore fishing industry begun more than two years ago.
From October 1, commercial fishing licence holders will work under an annual-quota system for each species of fish, rather than the free-for-all that has existed in the past ' The Ministry said the tender-round would close at the end of July and fishermen would be told mid-September if their tenders had been accepted.
